i just learned this was built by a 3 person team, which is impressive and worth celebrating.
i don’t want to be a pessimist. but i also don’t like toxic positivity.
the device is branded to represent a chain run by a foundation that has seemingly infinite resources.
i’m judging this from that POV.
i haven’t used this device yet either. the finger print signing seems like an actual design breakthrough for hardware wallets.
but as a phone? with a laser? no.
it serves no purpose and has no differentiation from my existing onchain experience. it’s a toy.
i’m willing to have my mind changed.
a hardware wallet with fingerprint signing sets a new bar for hardware wallets. much better than punching in numbers and doing the left/right clicking on a ledger.

if the bottom of the device MUST be there, i like this as an indicator of a signing request.

it's promising as hardware wallet (not a phone), and the list of unnecessary apps is the first pitfall.
NOT because they're necessary, but because they make navigation disorienting.
it's harder to complete the job to be done when i have to rummage through a menu with an alarm, calculator, gallery etc.
browser/contacts/wallet is the value boiled down to it's essence.
imagine how much easier it is for wayfinding and getting around. you wouldn't even need a menu.

this is confusing. i think it's just opening a browser for each "apps" web app? this should be a browser feature not a device feature.

imo the most important case for creating a dedicated device for onchain things is reinventing this process to receive/request.
it's repurposing the same problem from our current phones.
the whole point of creating a new device would be to fix something like this using tap or nfc.

looks like it was the same manufacturer as the R1 or something.
but the R1 promised a voice-first input. the form factor wasn't intended for on screen keyboards.
that's why most phones are designed to be rectangular.

and there's something about the touch areas. there's a few scenarios where they seemed unresponsive and unforgiving.
like here:
and here:
but i could be missing something becaue im not sure what these things are meant for.
